Knitting Socks Part 1

Learn how to make hand-knit socks! This class is a three part series in which we will knit a basic pair of top-down socks out of sock-weight yarn. (Warning: sock knitting can be highly addictive!) This course will not only introduce you into the wide world of sock knitting, but will also give you the knowledge and techniques needed for intermediate knitting projects.

* Class I (Tuesday, April 21, 2-4pm): The first class includes an introduction to sock yarn, sock architecture, measuring the foot for good fit, working comfortably with double pointed needles, knitting in the round, the merits of ribbing, using reinforcing thread, and different heel treatments for durability and beauty.

* Class II (Tuesday, April 28, 2-4pm): The second class covers short rows for heel turns, pickup and knit stitches for the gusset.

* Class III (Tuesday, May 12, 2-4pm): The third class covers toe shaping, kitchner stitch, and sock problem solving. Materials: Approximately 350-400 yards of sock weight yarn & appropriate needles (usually US1)
