Marvelous Mad Tosh May
May has traditionally been Mad Tosh Month at KC and this year is no exception! All Madelinetosh Yarns are on sale all month for 10% off! So, now's the time to stock up on this popular yarn. Stashng for the upcoming seasons is most definitely encouraged, and there are a lot of choices for current season projects, as well. Hurry on in! Lots of people already got the message. (Doesn't this little guy look like he dipped into one of MT's dye pots?)
This Month @ Knitty City
There's lots happening this month at Knitty City. Just take a gander at the calendar! We have two designer showcases coming up and a retirement celebration! The first one is tomorrow night, May 7, at the store from 6-8 PM.
On Thursday, May 7th, Xuanxuan Li will be presenting her Parson's senior thesis collection. Xuanxuan is Pearl's newest "find." She is a customer who uses knit, crochet and embroidery skills in conjunction with her clothing designs. She's agreed to present her work for our monthly designer's series on Thursday, May 7th. Please come visit us from 6-8 PM and meet this outstanding new talent on the fashion scene.
On Thursday, May 21, at 6-8 PM, we will welcome Xenobia Bailey to the store to discuss her newest art installation, which will be on display as part of the New York City MTA 7 subway line extension to 34th Street! Check out this video of her mosaic being assembled to get a sense of the enormity of the project -- and her talent!
Another Date of Note @ KC
Many of you know Alphonse Poulin, the leader of our Men's Knitting Group, and a legend in his own time, as both a ballet star and Instructor at Julliard. Alphonse is retiring this month and we are celebrating with him at a get together at the store on Wed, May 20 @ 6 PM. Please join us as we see him off to his second home in Maine.
What's New @ Knitty City
Much Anticipated: A New Sock Yarn from Regia is in the store! Designed by talented Norwegian designers Arne & Carlos, this 4-ply yarn produces a traditional Norwegian influenced effect in six extraordinary color combinations, and allows you to knit Fair Isle patterns from one ball of yarn. If socks aren't your thing at the moment, just imagine what a cute teddy bear or cuddly animal toy this would create.
LOOKING FORWARD TO JUNE
World Wide Knitting in Public Day is Saturday, June 13th. We'll be meeting in Bryant Park, as usual. Last year we had quite the turn out and we expect the same - or more - this year. We'll be posting more details as the date nears, but we wanted you to reserve the date now, if you can!
Knitty City will, once again, be conducting free knitting lessons in Bryant Park. This year we start on Tuesday, June 16, from 1:30-3:30. and follow on every Tuesday, until August 25. This year we will be knitting scarves that will be donated at the end of the season. As usual, needles and yarn will be provided and returned at the end of the lesson. Even if you are an experienced knitter, we welcome you to bring your project and join us. It's great fun, and you may be inspired to share your knowledge with someone new to the satisfying world of knitting -- and Knitty City!
