We are excited to welcome up and coming designer Mara Licole at Knitty City. Come meet Mara Saturday, October 28 from 2-4pm. Mara is the woman behind the brand "All That She Knits." Here is what Mara is about in her own words:
"All That She Knits (ATSK) is a creative brand focused on producing engaging and original knitting patterns for hand knitters. My designs reflect my love for handcrafted and artisan quality materials and each design captures my personal style and mood while incorporating elements or trends that I adore. For me, knitting is more than just a hobby - it’s artistic expression, meditation, and a language that connects one knitter to another. Since I first picked up my knitting needles, a few years ago, we’ve been inseparable and that was the beginning of this love story."
Mara walked into Knitty City a few months ago wearing a stunning shawl. After chatting for a bit, we found out she is a designer and of course we had to check out her gorgeous creations!
Wild Flowers + Honey Shawl
We simply are in love with this shawl design and Mara describes her Wild Flowers +Honey Shawl so beautifully.
"The warm sun on my face, crisp air, birds chirping in the distance, big fat bumblebees sticking their noses in the prettiest flowers…all the best signs that summer has arrived. Grab your needles and knit this timeless piece that is lightweight but sure to keep you warm in those air-conditioned places while it fast becomes one of your year-round forever favorites. It can be worn as a shawl, scarf, or even a swimsuit cover!
Wild Flowers + Honey is knit side-to-side beginning with an easy and quick striped garter section that flows into an irresistibly romantic silhouette featuring a dainty two-color brioche motif and flirty picot bind off. A beautiful tribute to those summer days."
The Wild Flowers + Honey Shawl is knit up in Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles with needle size US3 and you will need about a 1000 yards.
The Rebel in Me
When Mara walked in to Knitty City a few months ago, she was wearing this beautiful shawl. She told us that she had just finished this design and was contemplating how to name it. Our regular customers were simply ooh-ing and aah-ing over this shawl and after we a few discussions Mara decided to name this shawl "The Rebel in Me."
Mara describes The Rebel in Me Shawl as follows:
"A few months ago I decided I wanted to knit a new “favorite shawl”. At the time I was having a lot of discussions about people who change our world for the better because they had the courage to embrace the rebel within, think differently, and stray from the norm. Many of my heroes are rebels so in honor of those who inspire us to think differently, I introduce The Rebel in Me."
For the technical details, Mara continues:
"Knitted from the center top down, The Rebel in Me flows into a cozy crescent-shaped shawl. Simple eyelets add beautiful detail and garter ridges create a lovely texture. Highlight your favorite speckled yarn or contrast color while working on the two-color brioche. The picot bind off increases the whimsical and ultra girlish vibe of this shawl. The pattern includes a chart for the brioche section and a schematic to provide extra guidance."
The Rebel in Me is knit up in DK weight yarn.
Crossing Borders Hat
This hat with pom pom is absolutely needed in your accessory collection. It makes us want to knit one right now!
Mara describes her Crossing Borders Hat:
"Dive into your stash and grab some DK weight yarn in two contrasting colors to create the Crossing Borders Hat. With endless color combinations, an easy slip-stitch pattern, and two crown finishing options you will want to knit more than one! Add a fluffy pom pom for the ultimate finishing touch! Then wear your Crossing Borders Hat slouchy or fold the brim up for a cozier fitting hat."
And how about a set of Crossing Borders Mitts to match your hat? Mara will keep you warm in elegance and style!
