... And a good time was had by all!

Ubaldo & Two Savvy Girls

Ubaldo & Two Savvy Girls

As most of NYC's knitters know by now, Saturday, June 13, 2015, was NYC's homage to World Wide Knitting in Public! We were there - 150 strong - and we celebrated with music, our staff and friends of Knitty City. Here are a few more pictures of that glorious day in Bryant Park:

WHAT'S HAPPENING @ KNITTY CITY NEXT?

Free Knitting Lessons in Bryant Park
Beginning Tuesday, June 16
1:30-3:00 PM

This year we will begin our Free Lessons s on Tuesday, June 16, from 1:30-3:00PM, and continue every Tuesday, until August 25. We will be knitting "Found, But Not Lost" scarves that will be donated at the end of the summer season. As usual, needles and yarn will be provided and returned at the end of each lesson. Even if you are an experienced knitter, we welcome you to join us. It's great fun, and you may be inspired to share your knowledge with someone new to the satisfying world of knitting.

PS: If you have any spare stash yarn that you'd like to donate to our knitting efforts, please bring it to the lesson or drop it off at the shop. It will be put to good use, we promise!

Good ideas!

Every so often, a new book appears on the scene that brings with it a lot of attention. We first saw this one at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, where it sold out in a NY minute! This is a must-have book for anyone who loves shawls, scarves or wraps. Innovative construction plus beautiful stitch design equals pure knitting pleasure. Now's the time to use that one stunning skein of yarn you have been holding since a number of the patterns call for modest yardage.

CROCHET & KNIT CHALLENGE!

Screen Shot 2015-06-16 at 9.18.03 AM.jpg

Post War Blues is a site-specific collaborative installation: flowers, crocheted and knitted from recycled plastic yarn, burst out of the train car that sits in the Brooklyn Army Terminal Atrium. An Art Club has been created in the Brooklyn Army Terminal, which meets every month to make yarn from plastic bags, learn to knit and crochet, and make the individual flowers for the final installation. All who want to be involved are very welcome. Just think, your work will be featured in this exhibit and we bet you'll meet some neat people, as well.  Go here for more information: http://www.crochetchallenge.com/postwar.html. The next art club meet up is on Tuesday June 23 from 3:30 pm to 8 pm. Go here for exact locale: http://www.crochetchallenge.com/clubs.html
